Lucy Liu lahir di New York, Amerika Serikat pada 2 Desember 1968 dan merupakan anak bungsu dari tiga bersaudara.

Ayahnya bernama Tom Liu merupakan seorang insinyur sipil asal Shanghai, sedangkan ibunya adalah ahli biokimia asal Beijing.

Lucy Liu merupakan lulusan Michigan University dan meraih gelar sarjana dalam bahasa dan budaya Asia.

Selain itu, Lucy Liu juga mengembangkan ketermapilan artistiknya dalam menari, menyanyi dan bermain teater.

Lucy Liu pernah kebagian peran utama dalam drama ‘Alice in Wonderland’ yang diproduksi di universitasnya.

Lucy Liu memiliki seorang anak bernama Rockwell Lloyd Liu.

Karier

Lucy Liu memulai karier aktingnya pada tahun 1989 dengan mengikuti audisi untuk peran pendukung dalam produksi "Alice in Wonderland" di Universitas Michigan selama tahun senior.

Akhirnya, setelah peran kecil dalam film dan TV, Lucy Liu berperan sebagai Ling Woo, seorang pengacara Cina-Amerika, dalam drama komedi "Ally McBeal" (1997).

Demikian pula, dalam “Payback” (1999), film thriller kejahatan, ia memerankan Pearl, seorang pelacur BDSM kelas atas yang terhubung dengan mafia Tiongkok.

Pada 2000, Lucy Liu bermain dalam film Charlie's Angels sebagai Alex Munday.

Lucy Liu kembali mengulang perannya sebagai Alex Munday dalam sekuel “Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle” (2003).

Di tahun yang sama, Lucy Liu tampil dalam film aksi ‘Kill Bill’ sebagai O-Ren Ishii dan kembali mengulang pernnya dalam sekuel ‘Kill Bill: vol 2’ pada 2004.

Pada 2019, Lucy Liu bermain dalam serial televisi ‘Why Women Kill’.

Selain berakting, Lucy Liu juga kerap didapuk untuk menjadi pengisi suara dalam film animasi.

Diantaranya adalah mengisi suara Viper dalam film ‘Kung Fu Panda’.
